Five alleged members of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG) were killed while five government soldiers were wounded in a series of clashes in Munai, Lanao del Norte.

Troops under the 103rd Infantry Brigade (103IB) of the 1st Infantry Division (1ID) were conducting an operation when they engaged around 12 DI-MG members led by Nasser Doud in a series of gun battle on Monday, April 29, 2024.

The military said the first encounter happened in Barangay Cadayonan, which lasted for about 45 minutes. Another firefight ensued when the Joint Quick Response Force of the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion engaged the fleeing alleged terrorists for around 10 minutes.

According to the 1ID, the wounded soldiers are now in stable condition.

Government forces seized two high-powered guns and other war materials, including personal belongings of the alleged terrorists.

1ID Commander, Major General Gabriel Viray II, lauded the bravery and swift action of the 9th Scout Ranger Company (9SRC) and allied forces.

“The bravery and dedication of our troops in these encounters exemplify the unwavering resolve of the Philippine Army in protecting our people and upholding peace and order in the region,” Viray said.

Viray also reiterated the military’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the community against threats posed by extremist groups.
