A wedding in Iloilo has been stalled after a warrant of arrest for murder was served to the groom on the day of the ceremony. 

The 29-year-old suspect and her partner was about to exchange marital vows in a mass wedding ceremony at the Mayor’s Office, but authorities served a warrant of arrest against him for murder committed 12 years ago.

Police Major Fernand Limbungan, chief of the Calinog Municipal Police Station, said that alias “Nitz,”a farmer, and a resident of Barangay Marandig in Calinog town was arrested at 5:45 a.m. in relation to an incident in 2012.

He allegedly shot dead by accident an uncle when they grappled reportedly for a gun.  

The suspect said he assumed his case was settled already at the barangay level.

The suspect implored the authorities that he be allowed to exchange vows with his partner before he be taken under custody. But the arresting officers refused, citing proper processes to be followed.
