Some private resorts in Zamboanga City have ceased to operate temporarily due to water shortage.

A resort in Barangay La Paz has been closed to the public because its swimming pools don’t have water.

The resort owner said the operation has been disrupted for at least two months because of insufficient water supply that comes from the spring.

“Apektado gayod duha ka bulan na. Walay tubig. Init kaayo...minsan kanang gustong musulud dinhi dili pasudlun kasi wala may tubig,” resort owner, Cesar Oronan, said.

Other resort owners in the said barangay took advantage of the opportunity to repair their swimming pools.

“Minsan kami walang tubig, buti nga sa Tuburan sa Rio meron tapos yung iba sa NIA naman nawawala na rin ng tubig. Ako ginagawan ko ng paraan,” another resort owner, Manny Dasilio, said.

According to the Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD), not all areas in Barangay La Paz are being served by the ZCWD.

“May part ng Barangay La Paz na may service area tayo diyan, pero hindi lahat,” ZCWD Spokesperson, Raul Ruben Rivera Jr., said.

Resort owners are hoping that water supply would go back to normal as El Niño phenomenon is about to end, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

“Most likely from this month, matatapos na tong El Niño condition natin since March, April, May yung season na mag-pe-persist pero, probably this month or earlier next month so yun na yung mga tsansa na matatapos yung El Niño natin,” PAGASA-Zamboanga City OIC Chief, Rodel Inclan, said.
