Members of the family of a policeman in Negros Occidental who was shot dead inside his residence proved negative of a dermal nitrate test, also known as a paraffin test.

According to Sagay City Police, the common-law wife of their colleague, 44-year-old Police Staff Sergeant Lernie Alacha, as well as the couple’s two children were declared negative of gunpowder residue.

One of the children, a seven-year-old boy, was earlier alleged to have shot to death his father inside their residence in Sagay City, Negros Occidental on April 27, 2024.

The cop and his live-in partner were reportedly in a squabble in front of their children. But later on, the policeman fell dead. It was found out that he died from a fatal gunshot wound on the neck.

His live-in partner and their two children were considered persons of interest being inside the house when the incident happened.

According to Captain Judesses Catalogo, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) spokesperson, factors that could have affected the result of the paraffin test include the cloth or garment, condition of the room, human skin, and other human activities.

NOCPPO ordered a separate probe into the case.  Results of the investigation conducted by  Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) are anticipated to establish how the policeman was slain using his own service firearm.

Police said they are to coordinate further with probable witnesses significant in resolving the case.
