The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded five minor phreatic eruptions in Taal Volcano on May 16, 2024.

These eruptions occurred between 8:45 a.m. and shortly after 11 a.m., each lasting between two to five minutes.

The volcanic plume reached a height of 2,400 meters and drifted towards the west-northwest.

Four volcanic earthquakes, including one volcanic tremor lasting 551 minutes, were recorded. 

The volcano also released approximately 6,000 tons of sulfur dioxide.

No volcanic smog (vog) was reported.

Taal Volcano remains at Alert Level 1.
