A 41-year-old man died after his body was severed when he collided with a private van while driving a motorcycle in Barangay San Gabriel, Pamplona, Camarines Sur.

According to the Pamplona Municipal Police Station (MPS), the private van was traveling to Baao from Libmanan when it veered into the opposite lane after its 22-year-old driver reportedly fell asleep.

The van then collided with the victim’s motorcycle. The victim was peddling snacks.

The impact threw the man off his motorcycle up to 10 meters away.

"Pagbangga, tumilapon 'yung driver ng motor… nahati mismo siya dito sa may baywang. Siguro, doon sa unang impact pa lang, medyo madali na siyang maputol, then second impact na nahati,” PCPT. Dulcesimo Alcantara Jr., Deputy Chief of Police of Pamplona MPS, said.

The van driver and his companion sustained minor injuries.

The driver is currently in police custody while authorities await the victim's family's decision on the filing of charges.

Police said the driver may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.

Alcantara advised drivers to get enough sleep before driving.

"Maging defensive and disciplined driver po tayo. Kung ang driver, walang tulog, tumabi muna sa safe na lugar, [and] then magpahinga. Then after makapag-recover ng pahinga, saka na lang siguro mag-proceed sa daan,” he said.
