The Province of Bohol has declared a state of calamity because of the impact of the El Niño phenomenon. 

In a post by the Provincial Government of Bohol, it was learned that the Provincial Board, in its regular session on May 21, 2024, presided by Vice Governor Dionisio Victor Balite, approved the declaration of a state of calamity in the province. 

Bohol Province reported of an estimated P420.8 million in damages to the agriculture sector because of the ill effects of the prolonged dry season and extreme heat indices that already reached dangerous level.

The province has been experiencing drought since March with rainfall still below normal in May, Leonard Samar of PAGASA Bohol said. 

“With the declaration of calamity, procurement can be processed with urgency to ensure that interventions are in place especially for affected farmers. LGUs can also mobilize their respective 30-percent quick response funds,” the post further reads.
