Authorities confiscated alleged smuggled cigarettes and diapers worth around P18 million at a military checkpoint in Barangay Magoong, Linamon, Lanao del Norte.

The 4th Mechanized Brigade intercepted a container truck loaded with the alleged contraband. The truck was heading to Cagayan de Oro City from Pagadian City.

The items seized were turned over to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Iligan City.

According to the BOC, the cigarettes were found to be manufactured outside the Philippines and lacked the required Import Commodity Clearance from the National Tobacco Administration (NTA), which is a violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and Act to Effectively Instill Health Consciousness Through Graphic Health Warning on Tobacco Products.

The truck driver and his assistant are facing charges.
