Five private colleges and universities in the Ilocos Region have received a go signal from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to increase their tuition fees for the school year 2024-2025.

These schools, which have not yet been named, are within the jurisdiction of CHED-1 and have followed the 5.1 percent educational inflation rate for the region.

“May mga natatapos na tayo na mga application para [sa] tuition fee [hike] na dito lang sa aming level. As i’ve said, ‘yung 5.1 percent [na increase ay] na-comply nila lahat ng documents na pwedeng i-noted dito sa opisina,” Dir. Danilo Bose, Chief Education Program Specialist of CHED-1, said.

The proposed tuition hikes underwent consultations with various stakeholders, including school administrations, teachers, students, and parents, before being submitted to CHED.

The application process for tuition increases for the school year 2024-2025 has concluded.

CHED said, four schools in Ilocos Norte, two in Ilocos Sur, seven in La Union, 16 in Pangasinan, and four in Dagupan City applied for a tuition hike.

Other private colleges and universities seeking tuition increases beyond 5.1 percent have submitted their applications to the CHED Central Office.
