The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has suspended temporarily all voyages of vessels plying from mainland Surigao del Norte to areas specified in the Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 1 issued by state weather bureau PAGASA due to Tropical Depression “Aghon.”

PAGASA issued Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 1 due to Tropical Depression (TD) "Aghon” at 5 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024, which included areas of Dinagat Islands, Siargao Islands, and Bucas Grande Islands.

Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) vessels plying in San Jose Port, Dinagat Islands to Surigao Baseport, Surigao City and vice versa may only travel if the conditions set by the PCG are strictly satisfied.

Vessels allowed to sail are reminded to take precautionary measures and be extra vigilant while monitoring the prevailing weather disturbance.

Fishing vessels are advised not to sail.

The Coast Guard Station-Surigao del Norte said voyage of vessels will resume until further notice and upon improvement of weather and sea condition.

Meanwhile, the Coast Guard Station Surigao del Sur (CGSSDS) also suspended temporarily voyages of all vessels under 15 gross tons operating within its area of responsibility.

“Voyages will resume upon improvement of weather and sea conditions. Vessels seeking shelter are permitted provided they submit a written request and no passengers or cargo are embarked,” the Coast Guard Station-Surigao del Sur said.

CGSSDS has also activated its deployable response group (DRG) in anticipation of TD Aghon’s potential impact in the province.

The team is on standby to respond to emergency situations.
