An alleged former communist rebel linked to the killing of government troops was arrested in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

Police arrested the 41-year-old suspect by virtue of a warrant for two counts of murder issued by a court last June 15, 2021. The court did not allow him to post bail.

The suspect is said to be the political instructor of the dismantled Guerrilla Front 89 of the New People’s Army’s (NPA) North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).

Authorities said the suspect was allegedly involved in the attacks that resulted in the deaths of several government troops in 2009.

“This arrest is not just a victory for our police force, but for every law-abiding citizen who depends on us to uphold the rule of law. Let this serve as a reminder that we will persistently pursue justice and maintain the peace that our communities deserve,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Director, Brigadier General Ricardo Layug Jr., said.
