The Office of the Civil Defense-Davao (OCD-11) is mulling putting up evacuation centers for animals as the region braces for La Niña.

According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, OCD-11 is exploring the possibility of establishing evacuation centers where animals like cows, carabaos, and goats can take shelter during calamities.

OCD-11 Director, Ednar Dayanghirang, said one of the reasons why residents refused to follow preemptive evacuation is because no one will look after their animals.

OCD-11 is coordinating with local government units (LGUs) regarding the proposal.

LGUs, OCD-11 and other concerned government agencies are monitoring the weather condition constantly, especially that the low pressure area (LPA) has already developed into Tropical Depression Aghon dawn on Friday, May 24, 2024.

Several areas in Caraga region were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1, including the islands of Siargao, Dinagat, and Bucas Grande.

Surigao City experienced strong winds and heavy rains around 4:30 a.m.

According to the Surigao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), no barangay was flooded.

"Continuous po ang monitoring natin sa lahat ng mga barangay po natin. So, tiningnan po namin yung mga flood prone areas, landslide prone areas. So far, negative naman po," CDRRMO Planning Officer, Wingpin Rey Ma, said.
