One of the suspects in the killing of a policeman in Davao City in 2001 who has been hiding for years was arrested in New Bataan, Davao de Oro.
The suspect identified as alias “Dingcal” had a standing arrest warrant for murder with no bail recommended.
According to the Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11), the suspect was among those allegedly behind the killing of Police Officer 1 Jorge Sapero who was assigned at the Regional Intelligence Division.
PRO-11 said Sapero responded to a call for help from a resident who was reportedly harassed by Dingcal and six others on January 7, 2001. When he arrived, he was allegedly attacked and beaten to death by the suspects using a piece of wood.
Most of the suspects were arrested by virtue of arrest warrants except for Dingcal who managed to evade arrest for years.
PRO-11 said there were reports that Dingcal allegedly joined the New People’s Army (NPA) in Davao de Oro.
Dingcal was listed as most wanted person in the country with a P75,000 reward for his capture under the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) order.
The suspect is now detained.
