Residents in Baggao, Cagayan felt the impact of Super Typhoon #LeonPH as heavy rains and strong winds hit the area.

Since early morning on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, the downpour intensified, causing flooding.

The rising waters from the river made the Bagunot Bridge and Taytay-San Isidro Bridge impassable.

Authorities urged the public to avoid these bridges until floodwaters recede.

In Calayan Island, waves crashed heavily against the shore due to #LeonPH, and sporadic rains also affected the area.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned of potential storm surges.

PAGASA said water levels could rise between 2.1 to 3 meters, which may impact coastal areas in Cagayan and Batanes.

Heavy rains and strong winds were also felt in Gonzaga, Cagayan. The local government is keeping a close eye on residents living in coastal barangays due to the storm's impact.

As of 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, over 50,000 individuals are taking shelter in evacuation centers throughout the Cagayan province.

A total of 11 coastal towns are on alert due to the threat of storm surges.

“Nasa alert level tayo na 4.6 [meter] na siya (Cagayan River), medyo na-swell, but based on the forecast, hindi naman ganun kadami ang ibinagsak na ulan ni Bagyong Leon sa Region 2, kaya ang focus natin ay more on storm surge,” Ruelie Rapsing, Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Cagayan, said.
