Rescue operation to extricate a driver pinned inside a truck took more than an hour.
A truck driver rammed into an establishment and was pinned inside his truck in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City noontime on October 30, 2024.
Responders from the Bureau of Fire Protection 6 and other rescue units extricated the driver out of a truck loaded with rice after he slammed into an establishment near a flyover.
He had to breathe through an oxygen apparatus while the response was ongoing.
A colleague of the driver said that the truck was bound for the warehouse to deliver about 1,000 sacks of rice.
“Sasama sana [ako] sa kanya sa bodega. Doon pa lang, nawalan na ng hangin ang gulong. Bumagal sya kasi wala ng hangin,” JM Jil, a co-worker, said.
Police investigator said that either the brakes malfunctioned or the driver lost control of the vehicle.
“Ang tinitingnan natin dito baka nawalan ng preno ang sasakyan o sumama ang pakiramdam ng driver kaya hindi nakontrol ang manibela,” Police Master Sergeant Winfred Tubida, traffic investigator at Police Station 3, said.
No one was reported injured in the incident.
“Nagtaka ako ba’t nalaglag ang nasa wall. Tumakbo ako palabas, nakita ko ang truck. Tapos humingi ako ng tulong,” said Kristine Apelinga, the owner of the affected establishment.
The truck driver was already taken to the hospital, as of this writing.
