Super Typhoon #LeonPH’s powerful waves and winds have caused severe coastal damage in Cagayan Province, leading to the evacuation of hundreds of families.
Video footage captured by Alyza Lei Hernandez from Task Force Lingkod Cagayan (TFLC) shows intense waves crashing against the shoreline of Barangay Paddaya in Aparri, toppling a cottage and fisherman’s wharf.
In Santa Ana, local authorities evacuated 352 families, or 935 individuals, from coastal areas as storm surges began to flood homes.
Evacuees were given tents, sleeping mats, and relief goods, with cartoons provided to entertain children and ease their stress.
The area continues to experience strong winds and rain as of Thursday, October 31, 2024.
Further south in Gonzaga, Cagayan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) teams, along with volunteers, earlier conducted preemptive evacuations to safeguard residents from potential storm surges.
