A police officer in Pangasinan received recognition for his courage and dedication to law enforcement after he was injured when responding to a theft incident.

Master Sergeant Heribert Platares of the Binalonan Police Station was awarded the "Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting" by Police Regional Office 1 Director, Brigadier General Lou Evangelista.

Platares is recovering in the hospital after he was stabbed by the suspect he was pursuing during the incident.

In self-defense, Platares shot and killed the suspect.

The award is given to uniformed personnel who get injured while performing their duties, symbolizing selflessness and bravery in ensuring public safety.

"Nagbigay tayo ng pagmamalasakit sa ating mga personnel na gumagawa ng mga mabuting bagay para naman tularan din ng ating ibang kapulisan, lalong lalo na sa oras ng pangangailangan," PBGen Lou Evangelista said.

The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office assured the public of their commitment to maintaining peace and order in the province.

Provincial Director Police Colonel Rollyfer Capoquian urged residents to stay vigilant and actively cooperate in ensuring community safety.
