Authorities seized nearly P1 million worth of suspected marijuana leaves found in three parcels at the hub of a courier company in General Santos City.
Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-SOCCSKSARGEN (PDEA-12) and personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard conducted an operation after receiving an intelligence report about the alleged illegal drugs in the parcels.
At least seven bricks of suspected marijuana worth around P840,000 were confiscated.
PDEA-12 said the illegal items may have been ordered online and were expected to be received by a residents of General Santos City and Sultan Kudarat.
“Meron na tayong information doon sa recipient ng tatlong packages na yon. Kasi ito sila, according to information, posibleng nagbebenta din through online, yung modus operandi kasi ngayon ng mga drug trafficker, nag-eevolve, hindi na yung usual na kaliwaan,” PDEA-12 Spokesperson, Kat Abad, said.
Authorities are investigating the sender and recipients of the parcels.
Investigators are also looking into whether or not the courier company has liability. The company has yet to issue a statement.
PDEA-12 urged other courier companies to strengthen security against parcels that may contain contrabands.
“If ang company naman, hindi alam kung may ganitong klaseng illegal drugs na pinapadala sa kanila, then there will be no legal actions on this, but of course, siguro itong operation na ito will serve also as a reminder sa kanila na to strengthen, kumbaga maging strikto doon sa mga pinapadala din sa kanila,” Abad said.
