Several barangay officials in the Ilocos Region want security for the 2025 elections.
COMELEC Region 1 reported receiving online requests for security detail from incumbent barangay officials classified as high-risk.
“May mga nare-receive tayong query not only from the candidates but pati ‘yung mga incumbent barangay officials. Kasi may mga incumbent barangay officials na high-risk din ang kanilang classification,” Assistant Regional Election Officer, Atty. Reddy Balarbar said.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) continues to assess threats to both candidates and officials.
PCOL. Rollyfer Capoquian, Pangasinan Police Director, assured that all requests undergo a strict evaluation process.
“’Yung mga nagre-request naman na barangay officials or any elected official, incumbent or baguhan ay sumasailalim ‘yan sa threat assessment,” Capoquian said.
Despite no immediate threats reported in Pangasinan, authorities remain vigilant, monitoring all municipalities to maintain peace.
Authorities said the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) checkpoints across the province also contribute to the current calm situation.
