Despite the scorching heat of the sun, devotees of the Santo Niño walked at least five kilometers during the Solemn Foot Procession afternoon on January 18, 2025, the eve of the Fiesta Señor.
An estimated 1.4 million devotees joined the procession, according to the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRMO).
Starting at 1:30 p.m., they walked from the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño to major streets in Cebu City, including Osmeña Boulevard and General Maxilom Avenue.
The image of the Santo Niño returned to the Basilica at around 4 p.m.
At 5:30 p.m., a Pontifical Mass was celebrated at the Basilica led by outgoing Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Ruben Labajo and Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma.
The traditional Sinulog was danced after the Mass. No less than priests led the dancing of the Sinulog carrying with them the image of the Santo Niño.
The dance lasted for one hour as the priests prayed and channeled intentions together with devotees.
