A construction worker shot himself and his brother-in-law accidentally while handling a homemade pocket pistol at a construction site in Barangay Las Piñas, Peñaranda, Nueva Ecija.

Authorities said the suspect, whose identity is withheld, found the gun and was holding it while chatting with friends at an apartment when it fired suddenly.

The bullet hit the worker’s hand and hit his brother-in-law in the shoulder.

The victim is identified as 34-year-old Nilo Mallari.

Both men were rushed to the hospital and are now recovering from their injuries.

Police arrested the worker and recovered the firearm at the scene.

He is now in the custody at the Peñaranda Police Station and faces charges for violating Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

He is also charged for violating the election gun ban and resisting arrest.

The victim is reported to be in stable condition.
