The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Central Visayas has issued a red tide warning for areas in the region.

In an advisory issued on February 5, 2025, shellfish collected from the coastal waters of Dauis town and Tagbilaran City in the Province of Bohol, and Gairan in Bogo City and Canhabagat in Medellin town, northern Cebu Province were screened positive for the presence of Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP).

The laboratory analysis was done using the Lateral Flow Immunochromatographic (LFIC) method conducted by the Regional Fisheries Laboratory.

“To safeguard human lives and mitigate impacts on the shellfish industry, while waiting for the results of the confirmatory analysis, this warning is issued as a precautionary advice to the public to refrain from the gathering, selling, and eating all types of shellfish and Acetes sp. locally known as "alamang" collected from the waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol, and Bogo-Medellin Bay in Cebu,” BFAR 7 said.

"Fish, squid, crab, and shrimp are safe to eat provided that all entrails are removed and washed thoroughly with running water before cooking and eating," the advisory signed by BFAR 7 Director Mario Ruinata, added.
