An animal welfare group in Davao City is calling on the local government to intensify its implementation of existing laws against animal cruelty after another cat was allegedly abused.
The left eye of “Bullsy,” a puspin or pusang pinoy, is now blind after the cat was hit with a slingshot by an unidentified perpetrator in Barangay Matina Aplaya.
A veterinary surgeon said its left eye has been infected and had to be removed.
The Bantay Hayop Davao said the support of the community and the local government is needed to stop animal cruelty.
“Yung enforcement, implementation hindi siya bumababa sa LGU ang proposal po namin dapat activated ang barangay because when we talk about cats and dogs as pets they are community pets they are household pets so they belong to the community. There’s lack of support from the community ang nangyayari natatakot ang complainant,” Bantay Hayop Davao President, Rovie Bullina, said.
On Monday, February 3, a puspin named “Bluei” underwent surgery after it was shot in the feet allegedly by the owner’s neighbor.
“Bluei” would have died if the bullet was not removed, according to the veterinarian.
The owner is determined to press charges against the suspect for violation of the Animal Cruelty Act.
Bantay Hayop Davao also issued a warning against animal abusers.
“For those animal abusers just wait for your time if the law of the land will not get you it’s the law of karma that will. Kung kinarma kayo alalahanin niyo may sinaktan kayo intentionally,” Bullina added.
