Candidates for the 2025 national and local elections in Pangasinan gathered at the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office in Lingayen for a Unity Walk, Peace Covenant Signing, and Candidates' Forum to promote fair and peaceful elections.

The event, organized by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), aimed to encourage candidates to commit to clean and honest campaigning.

Nine candidates attended, while others participated in similar activities in their respective towns.

COMELEC reminded candidates about responsible campaign material placement.

“Pwedeng wala pa silang na-violate na election laws. Baka may na-violate na batas na ini-implement ng ibang government agencies like DENR (Department of Environmental and Natural Resources) na bawal nga kahit hindi election, bawal magsabit sa mga puno,” Pangasinan Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Ericson B. Oganiza said.

Ganun din sa mga infra or facilities na under the management of DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways), bawal din dikitan ng campaign material,” he added.

GUN BAN VIOLATORS NABBED

Meanwhile, Pangasinan police have confiscated 20 loose firearms since the COMELEC checkpoint operations began on January 12, 2025.

Pangasinan Provincial Director PCOL Rollyfer J. Capoquian said most confiscations happened during police responses to conflicts and disturbances.

“Karamihan dito is thru police response. May bangayan o trouble, then tumawag sa kapulisan. Pag-responde natin, naaaktuhan may baril, so inaresto, kinasuhan natin ng violation against Republic Act 10591, yung illegal possession of firearms at the same time dun sa violation ng COMELEC gun ban,” he said.
