Removal of campaign materials from non-designated common poster areas starts on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

Commission on Elections (COMELEC), through "Operation Baklas," will have campaign materials of candidates for senator and party-list groups that violate the prescribed poster size, and posted outside of the COMELEC-designated common poster areas, removed.

“Operation Baklas” begins at the start of the campaign period for national candidates.

In Iloilo City, portions of public plazas of the seven districts are designated common poster areas. One of these plazas is in Mandurriao.

COMELEC Iloilo City marked these designated common poster areas last February 7, 2025.

Each candidate is allowed one poster, that should measure two feet by three feet (2x3ft).

Campaign materials may be posted or hung in private places provided there is consent from the property owner. It is prohibited to post or hung campaign materials on trees, utility poles, foot bridge, and public places, as well as at barangay halls, day care centeres, gymnasiums, and other government structures.

“Pag nakita natin, pwede nating mahuli, pwedeng sampahan ng disqualification, at the same time ang nagkabit nitong mga illegally posted na campaign posters,” Jonathan Sayno, COMELEC Iloilo City assistant election officer, warned.

Meanwhile, election officers in Western Visayas undergo a three-day training in preparation for the midterm elections on May 12, 2025. The training will teach members of the electoral board, most especially on operating a new machine for the May 2025 polls.

“Ang next na i-train is ang DESO (DepEd Supevising Officers) technical assistants, sila na by next week. Ang atin namang electoral board members, from March 1 to 31, 2025,” according to Oton Comelec Officer G Bert Arbis.
