Ash fall has affected at least nine barangays in Bago City, Province of Negros Occidental.

According to Bago City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), one of the areas affected is Barangay Mailum.

“Umabot talaga dito. Mas malakas pa kesa noong nakaraan. Nagbalot naman kami kasi baka pumutok,” a resident named Marie Fe Mationg said.

Another resident, Anabelle Care, said that they thought it was just a cloudy day with chances of rain, but the surrounding reeked of sulfur.

“Parang ulap lang, akala naming uulan. Yun pala bumuga na, may asupre lahat,” Care said.

There were reports of residents who felt ill after inhaling sulfur dioxide (SO2).

“Ang reported is ash fall sa siyam na barangay at ang sulfuric stench, naamoy rin nila,” Dr. Merijine Ortizo, head of Bago CDRRMO, said.

No evacuation procedure was facilitated, but water rationing for affected residents was carried out.

Meanwhile, at least 267 tents were pitched in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental's Tent City.

The tents will accommodate more residents from the Municipality of La Castellana and La Carlota City, in the event of an explosive eruption or should alert be raised a level higher.

Alert Level 3, or magmatic unrest, prevails over Kanlaon Volcano since its latest eruption on December 9, 2024.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has been monitoring closely the magma reported to be rising to the summit crater of the volcano that is already at a depth of about five kilometers.

To recall, an episode of significant ash emission occurred twice on February 15, 2025.
