A wounded barn owl was rescued after its wing got stuck in a barb wire of the perimeter fence of a school in General Santos City.
According to the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO), a concerned citizen saw the owl fell from a tree and got entangled in a barb wire of the school’s perimeter fence.
The owl was then brought to the City Veterinary Office for medical examination and treatment.
“Naay laceration sa iyang left wing, after na gidala na siya sa DENR Buayan para ma-check sa ilang vet then na found out nga blind pud ang iyang usa ka mata, so mao siguro tong usa sa iyang cause sa pagkahulog,” City ENRO Agricultural Technician, Prince Tampus, said.
DENR-12 continues to monitor the condition of the owl while it is in rehabilitation.
“The agency reminds the public that wildlife species like the Barn Owl play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance, particularly in controlling rodent populations. The CENRO GenSan encourages the community to report any injured or distressed wildlife to the proper and nearest authorities to ensure their safety and conservation,” DENR-12 said.
“Naay tay RA 9147 mao na siya wildlife conservaton act so kung mupatay ka mga ing ana naa gyud siya kaakibat nga kaso sa imuha,” Tampus added.
