The Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) has activated "Bicol Shield," a security initiative in response to the nationwide heightened alert status declared by the Philippine National Police (PNP) following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Around 10,000 police personnel have been deployed across Bicol’s six provinces to ensure peace and order.

Motorcycle and bicycle patrol units have been mobilized to enhance police visibility in urban areas, public spaces, and key roadways.

Random and strategic checkpoints have also been set up along major highways and entry points to monitor potential threats and ensure compliance with security protocols.

In a press release by PNP Kasurog, PBGEN Andre Perez Dizon, PRO5 Director, said all PNP personnel in Bicol are on full duty status, with leave privileges suspended until after the May national and local elections.

Authorities urge Bicolanos to remain calm and vigilant, avoid spreading unverified information, and report any suspicious activities to the police.

PNP said these measures are in place to safeguard communities and maintain stability in the region.

Duterte supporters in several areas in the country have gone out to the streets to show support and protest his arrest on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. He has been flown to The Hague in the Netherlands to face charges for crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
