A 12-hour power outage on March 15, 2025 is seen to affect areas in Iloilo Province, while a 10-hour power interruption is set in Bacolod City.

The 12-hour power outage is seen to affect the Municipalities of Leganes and Cabatuan, and parts of the Municipalities of Maasin, Santa Barbara, and Pavia in the Province of Iloilo.

According to Iloilo 1 Electric Cooperative (ILECO 1), the power interruption is set from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  

“Ang main reason ni NGCP [National Grid Corporation of the Philippines] is may mga ico-conduct na mga correction sa linya from Santa Barbara to Ingore na 69kv line. At the same time during this power interruption, this is also the time na magco-conduct rin si ILECO 1 ng parallel activities,” Engr. June Garanchon, ILECO 1 Technical Services Department manager, said.

The brownout is expected to affect businesses such as laundry and vulcanizing shops, among others.

Merlyn Suarnaba, who operates a laundry shop in Leganes, said that she is in the business wherein the more clothing there is to wash, the merrier the endeavor goes.

However, the brownout will certainly put certain opportunities on halt, she said.

“Malaki talaga ang epekto kasi isang araw na hindi kami makaka-laundry. Tuwing Sabado kasi labada day,” Suarnaba said.

Meanwhile, Ramil Salon who owns a vulcanizing and cycle parts shop will rather close doors temporarily on March 15, 2025.

He said the trade is dependent highly on power supply.

“Ang mga electric hindi mo magamit. Ang compressor walang hangin. Yan ang problema tuwing brownout, hindi makaka-operate, closed talaga," Salon said.

In Bacolod City, a laundry shop has already advised customers of the scheduled power interruption. This after Negros Power announced that consumers are to expect a 10-hour brownout, or from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The power outage will give way to maintenance activities of the said power distributor.

“Waiting lang kami sa customer. Ang iba kasi nagmamadali rin sa kanilang labahan. Sasabihin lang namin na bukas na lang,” Gene Esmaña, a laundry shop employee, said.
