Four people drowned in Davao region and Iligan City during the Holy Week.
A 75-year-old man drowned while swimming at a beach in Barangay Leling, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur.
Investigation showed that the man may have suffered from hypertension while swimming.
In Samal Island, authorities tried to revive a man who drowned while swimming at the beach. The man was brought to the hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
In Davao City, a four-year-old boy drowned while swimming at a swimming pool in Barangay Sasa.
Police said the boy’s aunt left the child for a very short while to get something from a room when the incident happened. When she returned, her nephew had already drowned.
“Gumikan kay wala nabantayi sa iyang auntie kay naa lay gikuha sa kwarto pabalik nila, wala na, nalumos na ang four years old nga pag-umangkon,” Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Spokesperson, Capt. Hazel Caballero Tuazon, said.
Meanwhile, an eight-year-old boy also drowned while swimming at a beach in Barangay Santiago.
The boy did not reach the hospital alive.
Despite these incidents, police said the observance of the Holy Week in different areas in Mindanao was generally peaceful.
