As the impact of the ashfall from Mt. Bulusan's phreatic eruption on April 28, 2025 begins to ease, displaced families in affected areas may soon return to their homes.
As of 3 p.m., the total number of affected residents stands at 74,209 people or 14,830 families, according to the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).
PIA said the most impacted areas are Irosin, with 8,158 families, and Juban, with 2,934 families.
In a phone interview, Governor Edwin “Boboy” Hamor said displaced families may now return home.
"Any[time] this day pwede na... [kung] gusto nila ready kami. May 27 families tayo from [Barangay] Putingsapa," Hamor told GMA Regional TV News.
Meanwhile, major roads, including the Maharlika Highway, have been cleared, and relief goods have been distributed swiftly to those in need.
"As of 11:30 in the morning clear na 'yung Maharlika Highway tsaka 'yung heavy na nabagsakan ng ashfall which is 'yung dalawang barangay [sa] paanan mismo 'to ng Bulusan. Barangay Putingsapa of Juban and Barangay Gogon of Irosin, at 'yung dito sa may Maharlika Highway 'yung Barangay Buraburan pa [Barangay] Bacolod (Juban) to [Barangay] Bolos (Irosin)," he said.
"Wala pang seven hours we were able to read kung ano 'yung gusto [natin] mangyari [sa] sitwasyon," he added.
The governor also confirmed that food packs from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian's office have already arrived in the province.
While the eruption was less intense compared to the previous June 2022 ashfall, Hamor said the local government is "on top of the situation," thanks to the overwhelming support from municipal disaster risk reduction teams.
"Lahat po ng department head ng kapitolyo, including 'yung support ng LDRR sa bawat munisipyo, well overwhelming ang suporta nila kaya nagawa natin ang dapat gawin sa bawat bayan," he said.
Meanwhile, the temporary closure of resorts and tourism-related activities in Juban remains in effect under Executive Order No. 12 as part of safety measures.
Mt. Bulusan remains at Alert Level 1, while entry into the 4-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and 2-kilometer Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) remains prohibited.
