Two people were injured after a bus that was supposed to park crashed into several stores at a bus terminal in Cagayan de Oro City on Friday, May 9, 2025.

According to one of the victims, the Butuan-bound bus suddenly moved forward toward their seat while they were waiting for a ride to Surigao City. The bus then crashed into the stores.

The victim sustained an injury in the feet while a store attendant suffered head injuries and was brought to the hospital.

“Pag-abot nako diha gahilaka nato akong tindera ug iyang mama nagtakiang to diri to gitabang na luk-od sa ilalom,” Edwin Tan, a store owner, said.

It was found that it was the dispatcher who was parking the bus at the loading bay area since the driver was having his breakfast.

“Wala mosulod ang neutral… nabuy-an ang clutch mao niulpot siya. Routine naman gud na nila ang dispatcher maoy mo parking kay ang mga driver mamahaw… ang dispatcher maoy moplastar,” Tan said.

The Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office is investigating the incident.

As of this writing, police are waiting for the families of the victims to decide whether or not they will file charges.

Operations at the terminal continue despite the incident.

“24 hours operation, walay sagabal sa mga pasahero. Padayon lang gihapon 24 hours ang biyahe,” Agora East Bound Terminal Assistant Operations Manager, Romeo Khu, Jr., said.
