A total of 12 flights were cancelled evening on May 13, 2025 in Iloilo and 24 in Negros Occidental.

In Iloilo, 11 of the affected flights were local flights and one international flight for Hong Kong due to the eruption of Mount Kanlaon.

A stranded passenger named Cecilia had to wait for over 24 hours at the Iloilo International Airport. She was supposed to travel to Manila for her child’s wedding.

Cecilia is from San Dionisio town, so she decided to wait for the new flight schedule past 11 p.m. on May 14, 2025.

Another passenger, Jonathan, a seaman, learned earlier that his flight was cancelled. However, he does not have an update yet on the new schedule for United Kingdom, as of this writing. He hopes to get a seat, at least as a chance passenger.

“This is all due to Kanlaon eruption and since ash falls are very detrimental to the jet engines, the airlines cancelled,” according to Arthur Parreño, terminal supervisor of Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP)-Iloilo.

As of this writing, operations have resumed.

Meanwhile, CAAP also advised cancellation of trips at the Bacolod-Silay International Airport.

A total of 24 flights were affected from May 13, 2025 to dawn on May 14, 2025. Affected passengers were offered free rebooking or refund within 30 days from flight cancellation.

No cancellations took place the rest of the day, though, on May 14, 2025.
