A broadcaster in Iloilo City was found guilty beyond reasonable doubt for three counts of cyber libel.

Salvador Capulot, Jr., otherwise known on the airwaves as “Jun Capulot,” was found guilty for cyber libel charges.

The case was filed by a contractor in the Province of Guimaras identified as Shariko Salcedo.

According to Salcedo’s legal counsel, Atty. Aida Rose Villanueva, Capulot has besmirched her client's reputation in three episodes of the broadcaster's program for a media outlet he works for.

The episodes were aired on September 5, September 25, and October 8, all in 2020.

Capulot was meted imprisonment of six months to one day and up to two years and four days.

He was also ordered by the court to settle damages and other costs in relation to the case.

GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas tried to seek a comment from Capulot. However, he told the news team he was advised by his legal counsel to refrain from issuing any statement just yet.

“For example, tinawag niyang adik. Nag-claim umano siya na nang-bribe, humihithit (ng illegal drugs). These words were defamatory, nag-cause ng paninira sa reputation ng aming kliyente,” Villanueva, Salcedo’s lawyer, said.
