The Department of Education (DepEd)-General Santos City has launched the Brigada Eskwela at a remote school in Barangay San Jose on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

The kickoff was held at Rickvil Integrated School, a two-year-old school with five makeshift classrooms made from wood.

DepEd-GenSan said the school was chosen as the venue for the launch of Brigada Eskwela to highlight the urgent need for attention and support.

DepEd-GenSan has been making efforts to improve this school so that students in the community will no longer have to travel to faraway schools to study.

“Two years old pa lang ang school na ito nakakaawa ang situation nila ngayon so we have identified here, we planted trees and we have also encouraged stakeholders to invest like donating classrooms for the schools,” DepEd-GenSan Division Brigada Eskwela Coordinator, Herven Allado, said.

Participants joined in tree planting and clean-up activities to mark the start of Brigada Eskwela. Simultaneously, the school also began its enrollment for Grades 1 to 7.

Aside from educational preparations, students and parents also benefitted from Philhealth’s Konsulta Program, which offered free medical consultations, laboratory tests, and medicines.

“Kining konsulta benefits apil na ang check-up, laboratories, and dispensing of medicines,” Philhealth-GenSan Social Insurance Assistant 2, Adrian Nicolas, said.

DepEd-GenSan continues to call for donations for Brigada Eskwela, which will run until June 13.
