Residents of sitio Pangi in Barangay Mandug, Davao City have assailed the dumping of trash in their area.

According to some residents, they saw trucks entering a private property in sitio Pangi early on Friday, June 5, 2026, and unloading trash there.

The foul odor from the garbage spread quickly throughout the community.

“Daghang truck nanulod mga kadlawon na dapit unya mao na didto nakatambak murag di gyud siguro maayo na kay baho kaayo mosingaw man gud na diri gud masimhutan gyud diay ninyo aw abot uy,” a resident said.

The purok leader reported the incident to barangay officials while residents kept watch to prevent more trucks from dumping waste in the area.

“Isa makaapekto ni sa among panlawas diri unya naay mga balay diha pagkabuntag niadto og balay nireklamo kay baho lagi kaayo ang basura. Ang sulti ni kapitan wala man siya nitugot nga butangan diri basura. Ang gihimo nila diha gitabunan nila og trapal, pero mobaho gihapon na,” Purok Leader, Joel Melmida, said.

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) has yet to issue a statement regarding the matter, as of this writing.

TRASH ISSUE

Meanwhile, the front area of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Davao (DENR-11) office has already been cleared after garbage was dumped there on Friday.

This after Mayor Sebastian Duterte announced that the area has been designated as among the additional collection points after DENR-11 ordered the closure of the sanitary landfill following a trash slide on May 20, 2026.

Sebastian directed that an additional collection point be set up outside the DENR-11 office so the agency itself could see the city’s waste problem, stressing the health risk posed to residents.

DENR-11 reminded that indiscriminate dumping of waste violates the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (RA 9003).

DENR-11 said it has already identified those who dumped trash outside its office through CCTV footage and warned of legal actions violators.

The agency clarified that the local government must comply first with requirements to ensure the landfill can be opened safely.
