The Red Cross said earlier that among those who have benefited from the blood donations are survivors of accidents, shooting victims, dialysis patients, and women giving birth.

Bloodletting programs help sustain a steady blood supply, an initiative that benefits not only the recipients but also the donors.

In an interview with GMA Regional TV News, Red Cross representative Christine Teves has said that donating blood has scientifically proven benefits, which include reducing the risk of cancer and heart diseases, exercising the bone marrow for blood stimulation, and being able to burn more than 600 calories.

The bloodletting activity, which began in 2008, returned in 2023 after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 1,186 blood bags were collected in the 2023 drive.
