Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) shooting guard EJ Castillo leads the NCAA Season 99 juniors basketball tournament in scoring average, as of this writing.

In his last six outings with the Brigadiers, Castillo averaged 24.83 points per game against Benilde-LSGH Greenies, UPHSD Junior Altas, Mapua Red Robins, SSC-R Junior Staglets, LPU Junior Pirates, and Letran Squires.

His highest scoring outburst, so far, was against the Staglets where he poured in 32 points along with 13 rebounds, and two assists.

Despite his impressive performances, Castillo credits his coaches and teammates for bringing out the best of him.

“Yung kompyansa na binibigay sa akin ng mga coaches ko at teammates ko, yung tiwala po nila,” Castillo said.

As he gets noticed more deep into the season due to his scoring prowess, the Imus, Cavite native is well aware that teams are starting to scout him as they try to limit his offensive ability.

He recorded his season low output against Mapua where he only settled for 12 points on 42 percent field goal shooting.

But the prolific guard already has plans to outsmart his opponents.

“Siguro po manunuod ng film, kung paano nila ako bantayan tapos kung paano kami mag-aadjust as a team, yung mga gameplan, kaya naman po iyon,” he said.

An automatic machine in mid range, EJ Castillo bared to GMA Regional TV News that he tries to liken his game to that of his basketball idols Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.

“Sa mga jumpshots nila, lagi ko silang pinapanuod, bata pa lang ako, mga fadeaway nila,” he shared.

He also credits his Caviteño trait of being brave  in bringing his game to the next level.

“Yung pagiging matapang, pagiging-confident… ganon po sa amin, mapapalaban ka rin po talaga doon sa amin.”
