The City of Lapu-Lapu topped the overall ranking in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet 2024 as of 1:40 p.m. on May 6, 2024 with 10 golds and five silver medals.

On second place is Cebu City, followed by Bohol, Dumaguete City, and Mandaue City. 

The CVIRAA Meet 2024 opened officially on May 4, 2024 at the South Road Properties Festival Ground. 

Around 10,000 athletes, coaches, and sports officials from 20 divisions in Region 7 converged for the opening ceremonies.

The participants are from Carcar City, Bogo City, Cebu Province, Danao City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, City of Naga, Talisay City, Toledo City, Division of Siquijor, Negros Oriental Province, Tanjay City, Guihulngan City Division, and Dumaguete City; Cebu City Division, Canlaon City, Bayawan City, Bais City, Tagbilaran City, and Division of Bohol Province. 

In his message, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama reminded the athletes on character building and sportsmanship. 

Department of Education Undersecretary Revsee Escobedo who graced the opening ceremonies thanked Cebu City for hosting CVIRAA 2024, and cheered for the student-athletes, saying that their participation already makes them an inspiration to others. 

Governor Jake Vincent Villa accompanied the delegates from Siquijor, making the Division of Siquijor as the only team escorted by a governor. 

Villa showed the same support to the division in last year’s meet hosted by Carcar City.

Villa said his physical presence is his way of showing how the Provincial Government of Siquijor supports the aspirations of student-athletes to carve a name at the Palarong Pambansa in the next level and on to their Olympic dream.

After ttaking the oath of sportsmanship and oath of coaches and technical officials, the highlight of the opening ceremonies was the lighting of the urn to seal the official opening of the sports meet.

The CVIRAA Meet will culminate on May 9, 2024.
