Close to 10,000 delegates graced the opening ceremonies of the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet 2024 hosted by Ormoc City in the Province of Leyte.
Leyte Fourth District Representative Richard Gomez, president of the Philippine Fencing Association, led the ceremonial lighting of the cauldron.
With him are other bemedalled athletes in Region 8 who are members of the Philippine Modern Pentathlon Association.
The sports events started immediately after the ceremonies on May 5, 2024. However, outdoor events done supposedly from 10 am to 3 p.m. were suspended because of the prevalent high heat index.
Ormoc City leads the overall ranking, as of 2:40 p.m. on May 8, 2024.
