Hail the Chiefs!

Mission accomplished for the five-peat-seeking Arellano University Chiefsquad as it claimed the NCAA Season 99 Cheerleading Competition gold on June 19 at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

“Overwhelmed po, because this would be my last competition dito sa NCAA. We had a lot of hardships po na pinagdaanan but still na-conquer pa rin namin para sa championship na ito,” an ecstatic Jerwin Paquibot, AU Chiefsquad’s team captain, told GMA Regional TV News.

The Altas Perpsquad of the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta settled for a silver medal finish, failing to regain old form and reclaim the throne from its archnemesis.

The Las Piñas-based team has been the perennial second placer to the Chiefsquad in NCAA Cheerleading since 2017.

Placing third were the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Cheering Squad.

The AU Chiefsquad, who’s been the undisputed champion resting at the mountaintop of NCAA cheerleading since 2017, has now tied the record of five straight titles held by the Altas Perpsquad who completed the feat between 2010 to 2014.

“Walang katulad na saya, kasi marami kaming challenges pero binigay pa rin ni God. Mahirap sa akin, pero mas mahirap sa mga bata,” shared AU mentor Lucky San Juan.

“May mga days na ipapahinga na lang nila, ginagawa pa rin naming ensayo,” he added, crediting his student-athletes’ sacrifices for the feat.

Notably, all three podium finishers this season— AU Chiefsquad, Altas Perpsquad, and Letran Cheering Squad — reprised their placements from Season 98.

The Mapua Cheerping Cardinals and the San Beda Red Corps also had identical finishes after placing fourth and fifth, respectively, both in Season 98 and 99.

The Cheerleading Competition concludes the major collegiate events in the NCAA.
