At just 15, Mark Tyrone Reyes is starting to make waves in gymnastics, representing his private school at the Dagupan City Athletic Association (DCAA) Meet.
Mark, a Grade 9 student from JCCMI Christian Academy, wowed audiences with his flawless execution on the mushroom pommel.
He’s no stranger to the sport, having competed twice at the Palarong Pambansa and earning a bronze medal in the floor exercise at last year’s Batang Pinoy competition.
For Mark, hard work and faith drive his success.
“Tuloy-tuloy na training, laging magdasal, at confidence, at huwag magdalawang-isip,” he said.
Mark’s journey started at age seven, and his parents have been his strongest supporters.
“Pray po, sana ibigay ni Lord. Nagpupursige naman na mag-training sa Manila,” Maria Cristina Reyes, Mark’s mother, said.
His dedication is evident, with hands bearing the marks of countless hours of training.
Coach Kimbery Sugue commended his balance between sports and studies.
“Ang ginawa ng school, sinu-support siya. Ang academics niya, hindi niya napapabayaan,” he said.
The DCAA Meet showcases talents from six districts, with officials emphasizing the importance of skill and passion.
“’Yung mga competencies, ‘yun ang #1. ‘Yung hirap ng competency na ginagawa nila,” Floralyn Nicolas, Gymnastics Technical Official, said.
With his sights set on greater achievements, Mark continues to draw inspiration from Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, and to prove that passion and perseverance can lead to greatness.
