A student athlete from Mati City who participated in the Davao Region Athletic Association (DAVRAA) Meet 2025 has tested positive for dengue.
In a Facebook post, the local government of Mati City said the 14-year-old member of the Secondary Girls Sepak Takraw team was brought to the hospital on March 10, 2025, after exhibiting symptoms of dengue, including a three-day fever, dizziness, and vomiting.
At around 8 p.m., her medical results confirmed that she has dengue.
The DAVRAA Medical Operations Center coordinated the transfer of the athlete back to Mati City for medical care.
The DAVRAA Meet 2025 kicked off in Davao del Norte on Sunday, March 9, and participated by more than 9,000 athletes and coaches from Davao City, Davao de Oro, Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Tagum City, Panabo City, Mati City, Digos City, Island Garden City of Samal, and Davao del Norte.
"Sports teach us resilience, respect and unity we stand as one in elevating region 11 into greater heights not just in Palarong Pambansa but even on the international stage,” Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib said.
“This is a competition but let this be a testament of everyone's collaboration as a cause for celebration unifying force rather than a cause of division,” Department of Education-Davao (DepEd-11) Director, Allan Farnazo, added.
