The San Beda University Lady Red Spikers captured an elusive second win in NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball after outlasting Lyceum of the Philippines University in five sets, 25-14, 22-25, 21-25, 25-13, 16-14, at the Filoil EcoOil Centre on May 7, 2025.

San Beda University captured an elusive second win in NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball after outlasting Lyceum of the Philippines University in five sets, 25-14, 22-25, 21-25, 25-13, 16-14, at the Filoil EcoOil Centre on May 7, 2025.

The Lady Red Spikers, who absorbed back-to-back losses since seizing their maiden victory last April 27 against San Sebastian, improved to 2-12, but are already virtually out of Final Four contention, reads a report by GMA Integrated News’ Bea Micaller.

The loss had more weight for the Lady Pirates as they fell to a 6-8 card and are in a dangerous position with only a few games left in the elimination round.

Dealing that blow to LPU's semifinals aspirations was the troika of Janelle Bachar, Reyann Cañete, and Angel Habacon, all of whom finished with double-digit outputs.

The lefty opposite hitter Bachar led the show with 22 points anchored on 19 attacks, two aces, and one block while veteran Cañete chipped in 17 markers and seven receptions. Habacon shone with 15 points laced with 13 digs.

San Beda capitalized on error-prone LPU in the deciding fifth set with Johna Dolorito committing two consecutive attack errors that saw San Beda racing to a 10-7 cushion.

But LPU, despite missing the services of top scorer Joan Doguna in the final frame, still braved through and cut the deficit to a solitary point, 10-11.

Other errors, this time from Joann De Guzman and Ashley Muchillas, proved crucial for LPU as those pair of infractions allowed the hungry Lady Red Spikers to take a 13-10 advantage.

Muchillas, though, made up for it by unleashing an opposite kill and a service ace, 12-13, before Dolorito displayed her veteran presence to force a 14-all deadlock.

Habacon then got lucky while sending back a free ball as Cañete punished the Lady Pirates on her down-the-line hammer to seal it for the also-ran San Beda.

Doguna, who didn't see action in the final set, still top-scored LPU with 15 points while middle blocker Hiromi Osada chipped in 13 markers in the loss.
