Taking advantage of the summer break, children in Dagupan City are learning the skills necessary to excel in volleyball.
The sports clinic is being offered for free at the West Central Elementary School 1.
From basic coordination to strength and speed, young players are learning the foundations of volleyball under the guidance of a coach who has played since elementary until college.
“Para ma-develop pa sila. May ma-produce tayo na ikaka-proud ng Dagupan City,” the coach, Lizalyn Nabor, said.
One of the standout players is Mark Angelo Buen, who already competed in the Region 1 Athletic Association Meet (R1AA). He’s proud to represent his school.
When asked what volleyball taught him, Buen said he realized he was, “Nagiging disiplinado.”
While many kids spend summer glued to screens, 9-year-old Janelle Rayos joined a karatedo summer clinic.
Her mother, Hazel, said Janelle has been practicing since 2022 and even competed in Batang Pinoy in 2023.
“Nagulat din ako. Nahiligan niya. Sinubukan namin para mailayo sa cellphone, nagulat ako. Minahal niya ang sports na ito,” Hazel said.
Beyond physical skills, sports also teach leadership, communication, and teamwork. More than winning, children learn discipline, build character, and form friendships that last beyond the court.
