John Abis was a captain on a mission in Perpetual’s 69-60 win over EAC on Wednesday, hitting big shots in crunch time to deliver the Altas’ sixth win in Season 101.
The graduating team captain from Muntinlupa City raked in 15 points and 8 rebounds, both team-high registers, with 2 assists and a steal in his best player of the game performance.
The Altas overcame a sluggish start that saw the Generals earn a commanding 25-15 first quarter lead.
The Las Pinas-based squad found their rhythm in the second frame and was only down by one right before huddling up at halftime, 37-38.
The Altas finally turned the tide in their favor with a 17-14 third quarter scoring advantage, until Abis took over in the fourth.
The pro-bound forward scored 6 points on 3-of-4 shooting in the last frame, scattered through timely buckets that gave Perpetual a comfortable cushion late in the quarter.
Sophomore star Mark Gojo Cruz had 12 points to contribute, while steady shotmaker JP Boral, in only 18 minutes of play, added 10 points and 6 rebounds.
Super recruit Patrick Sleat didn’t have his usual scoring total, nonetheless producing 7 points, 5 boards, and 5 assists for an all-around showing for Coach Olsen Racela.
Wilmar Oftana and Deo Lucero led the charge for the Generals with 18 and 12, respectively, while Jude Bagay was also in double figures with 10.
The Altas outrebounded (51-37) and outassisted (21-14) the Generals, who were without Coach Jerson Cabiltes during the game, en route to their league-leading sixth win in Season 101.
Following the dub, the Altas now bear a 6-1 record to lead all teams in Group A, while the Generals are fourth in Group B at 3-4.
