Marlon Tapales failed in his quest to become the first Filipino undisputed boxing champion.
The Lanao del Norte native went down on his knees in the 10th round and failed to recover after Japanese foe Naoya Inoue landed a right hook.
Known by his moniker “The Monster,” Inoue came out more aggressive between the two fighters since the first round.
Tapales felt his fourth loss in his professional boxing career, while Inoue becomes a two-time undisputed champion and claims the WBA (Super), IBF, and vacant The Ring super-bantamweight titles.
