In celebration of Regine Velasquez-Alcasid's birthday on April 22, let's first take a trip down memory lane and have a look at the milestones of her career.
Known as Chona Velasquez back then, she competed on "Ang Bagong Kampeon" at age 14 and she won for eight straight weeks.
When she appeared on the GMA show "Penthouse Live," Martin Nievera suggested she use the name Regine instead of Chona and it stuck.
She released her first album in the year 1987 under Viva Records which included the hits "Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang," "Isang Lahi," and "Urong Sulong."
Regine won at the 1989 Asia Pacific Singing Contest in Hong Kong when she was 18. During this time, Asian press informally named her the Asia's Songbird.
'Listen Without Prejudice' is Regine's sixth studio album and first international album under Mercury Records and was released on 1994. The album included her signature cover of "What Kind of Fool Am I?"
Her 1999 album, R2K, is the best-selling album by a female artist in Philippine history. As her third cover album, it included various international songs such as "On the Wings of Love" and "I'll Never Love This Way Again."
"The Untouchable Family" was Regine's first ever film role. She played the role of Shiela, the love interest of actor Ronnel Victor.
She was one of the main characters of the 1996 film "Do Re Mi" along with Donna Cruz and Mikee Cojuangco. The film was one of the biggest musical comedy films released in the Philippines.
Regine appeared in other films with different leading men such as Aga Muhlach, Robin Padilla, and Piolo Pascual. She has won acting awards from FAMAS and Golden Screen.
She has hosted many singing competitions for her home network, GMA, such as "Search For A Star," "Pinoy Pop Superstar," and "Are You the Next Big Star?" These shows discovered some of the country's best singers like Rachelle Ann Go, Jonalyn Viray, Aicelle Santos, and Maricris Garcia.
Aside from singing competitions, she also top-billed in many Kapuso series like "Forever In My Heart," "Ako si Kim Samsoon," "Diva," and "Poor Señorita."
To celebrate her 25th year in the industry, Regine staged her concert, Silver, on the year 2012. Unfortunately, a viral throat infection halted her performance. She came back stronger the year after with the Silver Rewind concert.
At the first MTV Asia Awards held in Singapore, she won the Favorite Artist (Philippines) title. While there, she sang a duet with Mandy Moore.
Regine has sang many duets with various international artists such as Alicia Keys, Bryan McKnight, Peabo Bryson, and more.
She was part of Mega Magazine's Iconic Women in the year 2017.
Fans of Regine were excited for the Asia's Songbird's two-day concert last October when she celebrated her 30th anniversary in the entertainment industry.
On April 2017, Regine was nominated in Daf BAMA Music Awards. Daf BAMA Music Awards aims to honor different artists from all over the world.
The Asia's Songbird did her own fierce makeup look for the digital cover of Preview in October 2017.
Regine did not showcase her singing voice when she worked with fashion designer, John Herrera. For his fashion show, the Asia's Songbird transformed herself into a makeup artist.
Part of her extensive list of projects in the Kapuso network is her long-running Saturday morning talk show, 'Sarap Diva.'
Her latest project is the worldwide concert series '3 Stars 1 Heart' with fellow Kapuso performers Christian Bautista and Julie Anne San Jose.
In April 2018, Regine and Nate were added to the list of celebrity endorsers of a popular local fastfood chain.
