Alodia Gosiengfiao, Wil Dasovich explain reason behind controversial 'My Heart Went Oops' TikTok video

On April 16, Alodia Gosiengfiao and Wil Dasovich stirred controversy on Twitter after a TikTok video of the latter became viral.

In the video, Alodia is seen dancing to the hit trend “My Heart Went Oops.” Instead of dressing down, which is usually the "twist" in the viral video challenge, the cosplayer did a complete 180 --- she zipped up her jacket, with her beau popping up beside her and doing the finger wag, as to say no.

What was supposedly a fun, harmless video turned to be the complete opposite as few netizens started calling out the couple and tagging the entry as “toxic masculinity.”

An example would be a tweet made by username “@maroontito” who said, “Her claim to fame is dressing up cute and sexy. Who is this neanderthal trying to keep her doing her thing? And why is she allowing it?

“The ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) brings out the worst in these so-called influencers. WTF.”

This then led Alodia and Wil to address the controversial video through a YouTube video titled, “Our Response.”

In it, the two explain that the video went viral for “all the wrong reasons” and that it was completely taken out of context.

Alodia defended, “I have one thing to say, I'm the one who zipped up my clothes. Wil has nothing to do with it. So anong gusto niyong gawin ko, ibaba ko pa 'yung zipper ulit? Haha! Parang what? What are you expecting?”

Wil then explained his side, “The joke is not about me controlling what she wears but the joke is that you're not gonna see this today --- that's it!

"I can't even explain it any further than that. I don't understand why people would assume something like that.

“For one, for the people who are following me, I am always shirtless kasi napakainit sa bahay na ito. Two, the joke is that people are waiting to see her skin but I'm the one who's shirtless. So parang, 'Oops! Got you!'

“Plus, she can wear whatever she wants. For someone to say that she has a lot of followers and that we're sending a bad message and that people may not understand.

"Our followers understand us from all the years we've been making videos and from who we are as a people --- our values and morals.”

He then argued that if there's anything that people should understand about them it's that Alodia is more dominant in the relationship.

“Our fanbase completely understands that I'm not degrading or controlling or guiding her in any way.

“She's the boss. If anything, in this relationship, she's the boss. She does whatever she wants and I never dictate her to do something and she's in complete control. If anything, I tell her to flaunt.”

Alodia chimed in, “I'm the more conservative one.

“It's fine! For me, it's okay to be both conservative or if you are more open. It's nothing to me because I have a lot of cosplay friends who are super sexy and which I admire!

“So, I do that at times. But I save it for cosplay and I save it for special occasions ---- that's just for me. And I don't say no to that, it's fine.”

“Of course we don't support toxic masculinity in any way, so it's not making a joke out of it… It's just not in the context of what you see in the video. We didn't imply covering me up,” she concluded.

The two then apologized to those who were offended by the video but also respectfully asserted that people understand its real purpose: “to make you laugh.”
