Michael V on staying a Kapuso for 21 years: 'GMA gave an offer I can't refuse'
Award-winning comedian and creative director Michael V will remain in his home network, GMA-7, after he renewed his contract today, March 15.
Bitoy who has been a loyal Kapuso for over 21 years was warmly welcomed when he arrived at the 16th floor boardroom of GMA Network Center building this Wednesday afternoon.
Present during the contract signing were Atty. Felipe L. Gozon (Chairman and CEO, GMA Network); Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. (President and COO, GMA Network); Felipe S. Yalong (EVP and CFO, GMA Network); Lilybeth Rasonable (GMA SVP for Entertainment) and Michael V’s wife Carol Bunagan.
During his interview with showbiz TV reporter Lhar Santiago, Michael V revealed the reason why he stayed loyal with GMA.
He said, “Recently kasi GMA gave me an offer I can’t refuse. Gusto n'yo malaman kung ano ‘yung offer?”
“Inofferan nila ako na ituloy ‘yung Pepito Manaloto 'tsaka ‘yung Bubble Gang (laughs). Walang ibang network na gustong mag-offer (laughs).”
Bitoy added, “Ito talaga ‘yung tahanan ko, ito ‘yung bahay ko talaga parang sinubukang kong gumawa ng ibang projects sa ibang network talagang ‘yung roots ko nandito hindi pa rin maalis ‘yun.”
The Bubble Gang star also talked about his strong and good working relationship with the GMA bosses.
“Parang hindi na nga boss, parang talagang kamag-anak na ang treatment eh. Talagang mas komportable, mas madaling magsabi ng proposal, ng plano.”
For Atty. Gozon, he considers Michael V as the most popular comedian in the country today and he is impressed with how the Kapuso star steered clear of controversies throughout his stellar career.
“Well si Bitoy naman idol ng marami. Para sa akin, si Bitoy lang sa level niya ang pinakasikat na comedian sa ngayon. At kaya ko naman sinabing idol eh wala akong naririnig na kahit tsismis man lang tungkol dito kay Bitoy. Alam mo para sa isang artista medyo talagang pambihira ‘yun.”
He added, “Ano pa ang puwede kong sabihin? The thing speaks for itself, the fact that we have been together for 20 years and now more, siguro naman we don’t have to say anything about loyalty.”
